Western Illinois University's men's soccer team secured a 2–0 victory over Lindenwood on Saturday at John MacKenzie Alumni Field, earning a place in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament.

The Leathernecks began the match with strong defense and quick counterattacks. In the 25th minute, Liam Gainey scored from the penalty spot after a foul in the box, giving Western Illinois an early lead.

Goalkeeper Micah Ramirez played a significant role by making several important saves during the first half. Notably, he stopped a Lindenwood penalty attempt shortly after Gainey's goal to maintain WIU's advantage. Ramirez recorded nine saves before being substituted late in the game. He and Phanuel Gunn combined for a clean sheet.

In the second half, Joel McIntyre extended Western Illinois' lead with a goal in the 57th minute. The team's defense remained solid throughout, preventing Lindenwood from scoring and ensuring one of their strongest performances this season.

With this shutout, Western Illinois earned its fifth win of the year and third conference victory, securing a spot in the OVC Tournament.

The Leathernecks will play SIUE in the first round of the OVC Tournament on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
